Rep. Bailey Named one of the Nation's Top Pro-Growth Progressive Leaders

State Representative Jules Bailey was selected as one of ten rising leaders from across the country to join the NewDEAL, a recently launched national network that is committed to highlighting innovative ideas from state and local elected leaders who are pro-growth progressives.

Governor Martin O’Malley of Maryland and U.S. Senator Mark Begich of Alaska, Honorary Chairs of the NewDEAL, recognized Representative Bailey for his efforts to grow Oregon’s economy and save taxpayer money by making public buildings more energy efficient.

“Senator Begich and I have joined the NewDEAL because we believe we need to look for fresh ideas not just from the top down in Washington, but also from the bottom up, where innovative leaders like Jules Bailey are developing and testing their ideas out on the ground,” said Governor O’Malley, Honorary Co-Chair of the NewDEAL.

“In communities throughout the country, rising state and local leaders such as Jules Bailey are proving that you can be both pro-growth and progressive. The NewDEAL is designed to foster these types of ideas and these types of leaders,” said Senator Begich, Honorary Co-Chair of the NewDEAL.

“I am proud to be recognized by the NewDEAL for my work to do more with less by supporting smart investments that create jobs while making our state more energy efficient,” said Representative Bailey.

Meet Jules Bailey

Jules BaileyMultnomah County Commissioner Jules Bailey believes that effective policies and programs can help solve social challenges. He has been a strong advocate for progressive values and policies that improve the lives of working families. As a Multnomah County commissioner, Jules will continue fighting for programs that cut costs and save the county money while protecting our most vulnerable citizens. He will make sure county programs have clear, measurable goals, and make sure we're meeting them. And Jules will build on his work for cleaner air, safer streets, and solutions to poverty, homelessness, and mental illness. He is also a champion for the arts.

Jules Bailey grew up in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Southeast Portland, close to the district that he now represents as a commissioner. He graduated from Lincoln High School and Lewis and Clark College and earned a master's degree from Princeton University. Learn more about Jules.
